Three steps to go live

01

Book a slot

Pick an available time on the calendar. Free tier gives you one slot per month, up to 2 hours.

02

Connect your gear

Use Mixxx, Traktor, VirtualDJ, OBS or butt — point it at our server and hit broadcast. On Rekordbox, Serato or djay, use our Broadcaster app with a virtual audio cable (butt and OBS work too). Then press Test your connection on the broadcast page: it tells you from our side that your audio arrives, before your slot. Our Grooveline Broadcaster is optional.

03

You're live

Listeners tune in through grooveline.org. Your set is automatically recorded and archived for listeners who missed it.

Common questions

Do I need any special equipment?

Just a laptop and DJ software. Mixxx is free and works perfectly with Grooveline. A controller helps but isn't required. Using Mixxx? Grab our free Grooveline skin.

What software works with Grooveline?

Directly: Mixxx, Traktor Pro, VirtualDJ, OBS Studio, butt and ffmpeg — anything that streams to Icecast. Rekordbox, Serato DJ Pro and djay have no built-in broadcast to a server: route their master output into a virtual audio cable — BlackHole on Mac, VB-Cable on Windows — and stream it with our Broadcaster app (butt or OBS work too), or use a controller that appears as a recording input. Using our own Grooveline Broadcaster app is optional, never required.

Installing the Broadcaster app on a Mac

One file for every Mac. On an Apple Silicon Mac (M1 and newer), macOS may ask to install Rosetta the first time: click Install. The app is not notarized yet, so macOS blocks the first launch. macOS 15 Sequoia and newer: try to open it once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway (right-click → Open no longer works there). macOS 14 and older: right-click the app → Open → Open. You only need to do this once.

Installing the Broadcaster app on Windows

Run the installer and follow its steps; it adds Grooveline Broadcaster to the Start menu. If Windows says it protected your PC, click More info → Run anyway.

Installing the Broadcaster app on Linux

Ubuntu / Debian — easiest: download the .deb package and run sudo apt install ./Grooveline-Broadcaster-1.6.2-amd64.deb — it installs ffmpeg for you and adds the app to your menu.

AppImage (any distro): the app uses your system ffmpeg — install it first (sudo apt install ffmpeg on Ubuntu/Debian, sudo pacman -S ffmpeg on Arch). Then make the file executable (chmod +x Grooveline-Broadcaster-*.AppImage) and run it. If it won't start, install libfuse2. To stream what your DJ software plays, pick the Monitor of … input.

Is there really no cost for the free tier?

Zero. No credit card, no trial that expires, no hidden fees. One free broadcast every month, forever.

Can I upgrade later?

Yes. DJ Pro (€4/month) gives you 4 slots, up to 8 hours each, and video streaming via RTMP.

What if I can't make my slot?

Cancel it from the broadcast page as early as you can — that frees the hour for another DJ. You'll get reminder emails two hours and fifteen minutes before you're due on air.

At the moment a missed slot doesn't cost you anything: you can book again in the same month. That's temporary while the station is young. Once we're running a busy schedule an empty slot is a wasted hour for everyone, so a no-show will use up one of your monthly slots. We'll give plenty of notice before that changes.

Are my sets recorded?

Yes! Every broadcast is automatically recorded and added to the archive at grooveline.org/archive/. Listeners can replay sets they missed.
